YOGA FOR CHRONIC PAIN:

I DO NOT HAVE A BODY, I AM MY BODY

As someone who has lived with chronic pain and a dynamic disability since I was 12 years old, I stopped counting how many times people told me that I should “just try yoga.”

In 2020 my complex regional pains syndrome developed into full body nervous system sensitivity. I reluctantly found my way into a weekly yoga class. Over the last 5 years I have learned that rather than being the cure-all, yoga has helped me learn how to accept that there will be no cure all. Being in the dynamic flow of my body, rather than trying to get it to behave in the ways I want it to.

The practice of yoga has helped me to rewire my understanding of my pain and my relationship to my body. Marrying an understanding of pain psychology and yoga philosophy, I have been able to care for myself and life in dynamics with my body.
